Benefits of PIRP Course

Customer Testimonials

"I panicked when I got my traffic ticket, because I knew that it would add points to my license and that my insurance would increase. I was so relieved when I found out I could take this course to avoid both the points and the increase in my insurance premium. And taking it online made it painless - THANKS for making this course available! "

New York Online I-PIRP Course Information and Registration

The classroom Point and Insurance Reduction Program (PIRP) and Internet Point and Insurance Reduction Program (I-PIRP) provide the same benefits to New York drivers, regardless of whether the driver takes the defensive driving course in a classroom or online. Completion of this New York driving class, available to all New York drivers, makes drivers eligible to reduce as many as four points from their driving records. Our defensive driving course for New York meets strict standards set by the New York Department of Motor Vehicles and is approved by the NY DMV for point reduction.

How Does the New York Point Reduction Program Work?

NY DMV Approved Course Provider

After completing the point and insurance reduction course, you do not have to do anything to receive your point reduction. We will notify the NY DMV within ten weeks of your successful completion of the defensive driving class. A notice will be placed on your DMV driving record, and the DMV will automatically record your eligibility to receive the reduction, up to a maximum of four points.

Point reduction for completion of the New York driving course applies only to points assessed for violations that occurred within 18 months prior to course completion. It does not affect the points for earlier violations, cannot be used as a credit against future points, and cannot reduce your point total below zero.

Points are assessed against your driver record based on the date you committed the violation, not the date you were convicted of the violation in court. If you accrue 11 or more points within 18 months, you will be scheduled for a DMV hearing, after which your driver's license may be suspended or revoked.

Review your NY DMV Driver Record

Point reduction will not affect a current driver's license suspension or revocation, a scheduled violation hearing, or a mandatory revocation or suspension for an offense such as DWI, DWAI, or three speeding violations within 18 months. Completion of the New York defensive driving course will not affect the calculation of points affecting a Driver Responsibility Assessment.

The New York driving class for point reduction may be used only once in any 18-month period. Point reduction on your driving record does not affect points assigned by your insurance company for traffic tickets and motor vehicle crashes.
